Prep
Born and bred in Jackson, MS, DatBoiDrumma aka “Prep” is one of Mississippi’s most sought after producers and writers. Under his Beat 2 Sleep Productions and TraXtar Records’ imprints, he has worked with Pimp C, Jazze Pha, Ray J, Lil Boosie, David Banner, Lazy Bone, Bushwick Bill, and many more. Local talent around Mississippi seek him out on a daily basis for the hottest tracks, engineering, and hooks.
For ten years plus, he has developed and executed a sound that is unique and uncomparable to most. Prep has learned some hard lessons in addition to perfecting his craft. In 2006, when Jamie Foxx hit the top of the billboard charts with the single “Unpredictable” unbeknownst to the world, Prep was the man behind the beat. After slipping a track to a well known singer/producer in a Miami club one night, Prep thought he may have just furthered his career. Instead, it almost stalled it. When a local program director brought him the “new” track from Jamie Foxx and Prep recounted the events, he was shocked. Not only had Unpredictable (originally FIRE) taken off on the record charts but Prep’s contribution would never be spoken of. Prep almost gave up at that moment but his passion and talent outweighed the disappointment and he kept going. In light of past disappointments, the “Unpredictable” track can be used as a strong example of the type of music Prep has mastered. Though, Prep’s talent allows him to produce any beat for any hardcore rapper, as an artist Prep chooses the less aggressive route and keeps it real with himself. Prep’s music is more of a service to his female audience with a sexual blend of rap and r&b.
